“Dear Ed, I called you on July 6 regarding a problem that I was having with my home air conditioning unit and you helped me out tremendously. You need to know the impact of your customer service actions. In attempting to “diagnose” my problem to you, I explained the noise that my a/c unit was making. You educated me on the differences between the strengths of filters and suggested that I replace my current filter with one that was more appropriate for the size/capacity of the a/c unit. You also mentioned that you would be more than willing to come to the house for a service call, but recommended that I try this fix first. If changing the filter wasn’t the solution to the problem, a service call could always be scheduled to address the problem. The ultimate solution to my problem WAS for me to install the proper sized filter and NOT to schedule a service call.

While other companies may have suggested a full-blown service call would be required in this situation, your solution was to satisfy the customer. The bottom line is that even though you may have forfeited the money earned from a service call in the short term, you have retained a customer for life in the long term. Yes, price is important, but customer service is just as important (if not more important). Your actions have guaranteed that we will remain loyal Environmental Air, Inc. customer.
